Follow-Up
Building on the first half of this two-part inclusivity series, focus on the following discussion: knowing that different aspects of your identity may give you more or less privilege in the workplace, how do you want to move forward?
In addition to recapping module three and discussing implicit bias, we also discussed microaggressions. Microaggressions are of course very harmful, but they can also be surprising. Continuing our discussion from this module and the last one, we’d like to encourage you to reflect on those situations and think about how you want to handle them when they come up. We suggest discussing the following questions with someone you trust and feel comfortable with:
- If you’ve experienced a microaggression before , how did it make you feel?
- How did you react/what did you do? Was it how you would have liked to react, or would you do it differently?
- If you experience one in the workplace, how would you like to handle it? If you’re comfortable, try out the words you’d use for that.
- Would you consider the approach of “checking in” or “calling in” like we discussed in this module?
